How Much is the "Million Dollar" Letter Worth? - August
02, 2003
Untitled Document
On April 1st, we invested $279.53 to see if this “Million Dollar”
Chain Letter worked. You won’t believe how much money this one letter
made us…
You might be familiar with a certain letter that has been circulating the country
for years now. This letter promises three things. One, that it is legal, two,
that it is not a chain letter, and three, that if you follow its directions,
you will become very rich. So we decided to find out for ourselves just how
true it really was.
We have accumulated many different versions of the same letter, and here are
three of the most common ones.
Version 1
Version 2
Version 3
All of the letters promise great riches, usually about $500,000 to $800,000
in a three-month period. All you have to do is send money (1 or 2 dollars) to
each of the five or six people on the list. Then you add your name to the list
and send the new letter to as many people as possible. According to the people
that started the chain, you will be bombarded with so much money that you won’t
have time to count it. We’ll see.
Are these chain letters or not?
According to whoever wrote them, they aren’t. When you pay the “originators”
their one or two dollars each, you are supposed to give them your name and ask
them to add you to their mailing list. This is supposed to be the “service”
that the letter performs, deeming it legal. But you must keep in mind that these
names are not being added to anything at all. That is just a front, and would
never hold up legally. But the best way to answer the chain letter question
is to look at the United States Postal Service’s definition of a chain
letter. The USPS states that a chain letter is…
“a "get rich quick" scheme that promises that your mail box
will soon be stuffed full of cash if you decide to participate. You're told
you can make thousands of dollars every month if you follow the detailed instructions
in the letter. A typical chain letter includes names and addresses of several
individuals whom you may or may not know. You are instructed to send a certain
amount of money--usually $5--to the person at the top of the list, and then
eliminate that name and add yours to the bottom. You are then instructed to
mail copies of the letter to a few more individuals who will hopefully repeat
the entire process. The letter promises that if they follow the same procedure,
your name will gradually move to the top of the list and you'll receive money
-- lots of it. “ -from the USPS
Website
Even if you just glanced at one of the sample letters, you will know that these
are exactly what the USPS is describing. So, to answer the question, “Is
this a chain letter?” – Yes it is.
Are they legal?
Of course not! Since these “Million Dollar” letters are actually
chain letters, (despite what they claim) then no, they are not legal. But what
about Title 18, Section 1302 and 1342 of the U.S. Postal and Lottery Laws that the letters refer to? The
Post Offices that we went to did not take the time to show us exactly what Title
18 says, but they insisted that these letters are illegal, and the chain letter originators referred to the official document jsut to fool prospects.
How much money did we make?
We picked the best day possible to send out 500 copies of the letter, April
1st 2003. It took exactly $279.53 and five hours of labor to get them out the
door and on their way. Of course, stamps were the biggest expenditure, and the
mailing list for 500 came in second, at $70.00 even.
Believe it or not, we started receiving cash in the mail on April 5th, just four days later! Here
is a list of what has come our way since then-
April, 5th- $ 1
April, 9th- 1
April, 14th- 1
April, 19th- 1
June, 24th- 1
For a grand total of $5 ! We are so excited.
Although the mailing list companies mentioned in the letters are probably raking
in the cash, we definately did not get rich from this endeavor. Hopefully, this
article will keep at least one person from wasting their hard earned money,
and breaking the law.
From your friends at MakeMoreMoney.biz
Version 1
Dear Friend:
I call you friend, because I hope that after you read this letter, you will
think of me as your friend. I am most delighted to share with you a truly revolutionary
and explosive way to make money.
I am a retired attorney and about two years ago, a man came to me with a letter.
He asked me to verify that this letter was legal. I told him I would review
it and get back to him. A week and a half later, I met with my client again
to discuss the same issue. I told him that the letter, as originally brought
to me, was not 100% legal, and advised him to make a small change in the letter
so it would be.
I was still curious about the letter, so he told me how it works. I thought
it was a long shot and decided not to participate. However, before my client
left I asked him to keep me updated as to his results. About two months later,
he called to tell me that he had received over $800,000 in cash. I did not believe
him. He suggested that I try his idea and find out for myself. I thought about
it for a couple of days and decided that I didn’t have anything to lose,
so I asked him for a copy of the letter. I followed the instructions exactly,
mailed out 200 copies and, sure enough, the money started arriving. It came
slowly at first, but after four weeks I was getting more and more than I could
open in a day. After about six months, the money stopped coming in. I kept a
precise record of my earnings and at the end they totaled $968,493.0!!
I was earning a good living as an attorney, but as anyone in the legal profession
will tell you there is a lot of stress that comes with the job. I told myself
if things work out, I would retire from practice and play golf. I decided to
try the letter again, but this time I sent out 500 letters. Well, six months
later, I totaled $2,344,178.00. I just couldn’t believe it, I met with
my old friend at lunch to find out how it worked.
He told me that there are quite a number of similar letters like this going
around. What made this one different was the fact there were six names on the
list, not five, like many others. The fact alone resulted in many more returns.
The other part was in guaranteeing that the whole program was legal, since no
one wants to risk participating in something illegal.
I bet by now you are curious to know what little change I told him to make.
Well if you send a letter like this, in order to make it legal, you must actually
sell something. If you expect to receive a dollar in return, what are you selling?
When you send a dollar to each person on the list, you must include a slip of
paper with the words:”Please put me on your mailing list” and include
your name and address. THIS IS THE KEY TO THE PROGRAM. The items you will receive
for the dollar you send to the six names in the letter, and the right to receive
thousands of dollars in the mail order/mailing list. Follow the simple instructions
exactly and in less than three months, you will receive $800,000.
Please be honest and this will work for everyone. Don’t tamper with the
program, it is designed so that as you move up on the list, YOU will multiply
your earnings. Remember, while you are making it happen for someone else, other
people are being encouraged to make it happen for you. Keep with the program,
as it stands and everyone will enjoy in the same rewards. There is nothing more
powerful in advertising than word of mouth.
FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY1D
Step 1: Immediately send $1.00 to each of the six people listed below. Put a
dollar in the envelope and a handwritten index card with the saying written
on it, “Please put me on your mailing list” and include your name
and address.
1. Name and Address
2. Name and Address
3. Name and Address
4. Name and Address
5. Name and Address
6. Name and Address
Step 2: REMOVE THE NAMES FROM THE TOP OF THE LIST and move the other five names
up so that #2 becomes #1 and so on. Add your name as #6. One way to do this
is to type or print your new list of names and tape it over the old list before
you run copies.
Step 3: When you have completed steps 1 and 2, take this letter to the copy
shop and make 200 (or more) copies. The more copies you send, the greater the
results will be.
Step 4: Order 200 (or more) names from a mailing list company. I recommend
the following company, as they do not over use their lists. They promise each
name on the peel-and-stick labels has recently requested money making information
within the last 45 days. You can try:
Quality Service First International Pub.
18402 N. 19th Ave pmb 122 8901 Jenny Lind Rd,
Phoenix, AZ 85023 Ste 4b, Dept. 53205
1-800-659-6030 Fort Smith, AR 72908
1-800-676-8886
Step 5: You will receive names on pre-addressed labels within a few days. While
you’re waiting, put your copies in envelopes, seal and stamp them so there
is nothing left to do, but apply the labels and mail. These names will be from
current active lists. They are not duplicated or sent out to dozens of other
customers. Once you receive your list and labels, send out your copies as soon
as possible.
Step 6: Within 90, you should receive $8000,000 cash!! Keep this letter so
you can use it again when you need money.
THIS SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACCUMULATING CAPITAL FAST AND
HONESTLY. THIS IS NOT A CHAINLETTER. It is perfectly legal (Refer to Title 18:1302
and 1342 of the U.S. Postal and Lottery Laws). When you send 200 copies of this
letter, and each responsive individual sends 200 copies and sends you a dollar,
your fortune multiplies rapidly.
Your total cost:
200 copies of this letter (4 pages @ 5 cents) $40.00
200 names of list of opportunity seekers $26.00
206 business size envelopes $5.15
206 .37 cent stamps $76.22
$1.00 to each of six names $6.00
Total: $153.37
At a very conservative figure, lets assume you got a 7.5% return rate. My first
attempt was about 9.5% and my second was 11%.
When you send out 200 letters, 15 people will send you $1.00 >>>>
$15.00
Those 15 people mail out 200 letters & 225 people respond with a $1.00 >>>>$225.00
Those 225 people mail 200 letters and 3,375 people send $1.00 >>>>
$3,375.00
Those 3,375 people mail out 200 letters and 50,625 people send you a dollar
>>>> $50,625.00
Those 50,625 mail out 200 letters and 759,375 people send you a $1.00 >>>>$759,375.00
TOTAL: $813,615.00
At this point, your name is dropped for the list, but you have received $813,615.00!
It works everytime. But how well you do depends on how many letters you mail
out. On the above example, you started with 200 letters at a 7.5% return rate.
I guarantee the math is correct. With this kind of response, you’ve got
to try it.
READ WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO SOME WHO HAVE ALREADY MADE IT!
This program works perfectly. I have never failed to make at least $800,000.
On each mailing. I was skeptical when I received this offer three years ago.
Now I’m about to send out my fourth mailing. I’m not greedy, I’ve
developed Champagne testes. It is a legitimate business opportunity that I almost
passed up. As a salesperson for a high tech Company, I thought I had world on
a string. I’m only 34 years old and retired for all practical purposes.
Some of my close relatives and couple of friends are now enjoying my lifestyle
too. I don’t remember the name of the person who sent me this first letter,
but I’m ethereally grateful.Edward Stromly
In September of 1998, my car was repossessed and bill collectors were hounding
me like you wouldn’t believe. I was laid off and unemployment insurance
ran out. In October of that year, I received a letter telling me how to earn
800,000 anytime I wanted to. Of course, that sounded to good to be true. But,
because I was so desperate, I felt that I had nothing to lose. I borrowed the
money and gave it a try. As they say, the rest is history. In January of 1999
my family and I went on a CRUISE! In February we paid cash for a brand new Cadillac.
We are currently building a Second home in Virginia. And I will NEVER HAVE TO
WORK AGAIN!Dick Hollman
I am naturally skeptical and I had received at least 25 letters similar to this
one in the past, all of which I hastily Discarded. There was however, something
about this one that I liked. It required less of an investment then some others
do and all participants received money, not just the top one. Anyway I sent
out 250 letters and hoped for the best. Nothing happened for 11 days but on
the 12th day I received $90.00…..over the next four months, I received
a little over $800,000 cash in the mail. I’m doing it again with a thousand
letters this time. Gretchen Cantor
I wanted to try a similar program in which it would have cost me $5.00 for each
of the five names on the list, plus a lot more expense, which at the time I
didn’t have enough capital to invest. The first time I sent this letter,
I got my first response in one week. After a short period of time, loads of
mail came pouring in. Before I knew it, my mail was being delivered in mail
sacks with a dollar in every envelope. You can’t beat it. I recommend
it to anybody that needs money fast. R. Siegerot
I was so tired of being broke all the time. I made a decent salary, but by the
time I got all of the bills paid I was right back where I started with nothing
left in the checking account but a few dollars to buy food for me and my three
children. Most of the time, I didn’t want to borrow money on my credit
cards but I never seemed to get them below the limit. I talked this over with
a friend of mine and she was in the same boat. One day we came upon a letter
that looked ordinary but it was not something that I had received before. I
opened it and began to read out loud. I became curious when I noticed that she
was keenly interested in the letter. I asked, “did I miss something?”
She kept reading. Finally, she said “look at this Read the whole thing
and then tell me what you think” I read it once again and turned to her
and said” so? She responded. This may be the answer to both of our prayers.
It can’t hurt to try… I thought about it over night and called her
the next evening with my answer. To cut expenses, we decided to go in together.
We split the cost of everything. She placed her name in the sixth position on
125 of the letters and I placed my name and address in the sixth position on
the other 125 letters. She received her first response in 15 days but I got
mine in 11. After three and one half months, I raised 400,982.00. My girlfriend
made it all the way to 401,239.00. Our money worries are over and our friendship
is deeper than ever. My children are now in private schools, we have a NEW HOME
and spend a lot of time in our NEW CAR. I can’t recommend this business
highly enough. If you’re not sure about the pay off try it and then watch
your fortune roll in. Micheala Armstrong
Here are a few tips I’ve learned:
1. After you receive your mailing list, mail the letters as soon as possible,
while the list is still fresh.
2. When you handle a lot of letters, an electric opener is great.
3. File your responses alphabetically every day. If you have a computer, it
makes the job easier. Otherwise, file by hand, I suggest index cards in a file
box.
4. Keep accurate records, the IRS will be very interested in where you are getting
all of your money.
5. Stay cool. Keep your job until you’ve had time to plan your next step.
Save 10% of your new income for charitable organizations (tithing-you will reap
what you sow.) Keep 20% in your savings account. Set aside 20% for taxes and
spend the rest. Not enough? Mail-Mail-Mail.
6. Keep what you are doing to yourself for a while. Many, especially your relatives
and close friends will try to talk you out of finding your dreams. Let them
know AFTER it has worked for you.
7. You will soon compile an extensive mailing list. It can be very useful to
your business. Or you can sell your list to a mailing list firm and start your
own list.
When you send out these letters, you are in the mail order business. People
are sending you a dollar to be put on your mailing list. This is a legal and
helpful service.
If you have tried similar systems before which have failed, it was probably
because you mailed the letters to friends, co-workers, and relatives. Sometimes
they mean well, but they can be our worst promoters. This time get the mailing
labels, or make up your own list, and share the information with your friends
and family after you have proof that it works. My first response came in five
days after I mailed it.
Read the testimonials and then decide what you are going to do with your future.
A word of advice, read the letter over several times and set it aside, think
about it. Then make your decision. I hope you give it a try, I know it works.
And I’d like to see it work for you.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE LETTER BEFORE ACTING ON IT
This letter is legal: refer to Title 18. Section 1302, U.S. Postal Service
Regulations.
HELLO
My name is David Rhodes. In September 1991, my car was repossessed and the
bill collectors were hounding me like you wouldn’t believe. I was laid
off my job and my unemployment ran out. In 1992, my family and I went on a 10-day
cruise. Then I built a new house in Virginia, and I will never have to work
again.
In 1991, I received a letter in the mail telling me how to earn $50,000 anytime
I wanted I wanted to. Of course I was skeptical. But, because I was desperate
and had nothing to lose I gave it a try. I promised that any money I received
would be shared with others. Today… I consider myself both fortunate and
well-off.
During the first year, I earned over 200,000 and then became a millionaire
the following year. This is a legitimate business opportunity and it’s
legal. It works every time. I have never failed to earn less than 50,000 each
time. It does not require you to sell anything, to go to many meetings, or come
into contact with any people. In fact, the only time you have to leave your
home is to mail your letters. If you have always believed that some day you
would get a good break, your time has finally arrived.
Now it’s up to you! Simply follow the instructions exactly and in good
faith. In 20-60 days you will receive up to 50,000 in cash.
1. IMMEDIATELY mail $2.00 cash to each of the names below. Place it between
a folded piece of paper for security.
2. Remove the top name in the number one spot, move the others up and place
your name and address in the number six spot.
3. Make 200 to 500 copies of this letter with your name and address in the number
six spot (the more copies you mail, the more money you will make.)
4. Get a list of names from the list company “National Home Assemblers”P.O.
Box 201a-(mailing lists) Mainesburg, PA 16932. ($35) for 200 names or ($70)
for 500 names. You must pay by money order.
5. While waiting for your mailing list to arrive about (7-10 days), place the
copies of your letters in stamped envelopes. DO NOT put a return address on
the envelopes.
6. When your mailing list arrives, it will come in form of laser quality, peel
and stick labels. Place the labels on the envelopes and mail them. Within 60
days you will receive at least 50,000 in cash.
NOTE: As soon as you mail out the letters, you are in the mail order business.
People will be sending you $2.00 to have their names placed on the mailing list
along with the names of the others. This is a perfectly legal business transaction.
More, importantly this is a way in which people are presently helping one another
and have been for years. That is working within the system to make money without
trying to justify selling something that no one needs or wants.

ACTUAL LETTERS FROM PARTICIPANTS
A few months ago, I received the enclosed letter. I ignored it. I was convinced
it was a hoax and could not possibly work. I was wrong! About three weeks later,
I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I didn’t expect much because
I figured other people were as skeptical as I was. Three weeks went by, nothing.
Then, the forth week came around and I couldn’t believe what happened!
Cash just started rolling in! I didn’t receive $800,000, but it was eventually
over $550,000. For the first time I am out of debt and enjoying life. I plan
to use it again. Thanks for giving me the opportunity. Please use this letter
to convince other folks that this really works.
Sincerely, W. Capers
I have received about 20 letters of this nature over the past several years.
However, there was something different about this one. Everyone on the list
gets money, not just the top one. Anyhow, I sent my $35.00 and then sent my
letters. Nothing happened for about four weeks. Then, I got $127.00 in one day.
Over the next two and a half months, I received a total of $862,279! I vowed
that if I received money, I would share it with my church.
J.W. Holliman
The first time I sent my letters, I got my first response in two weeks. My
total was $710,000. I am going to do it again, this time with 500 letters. Good
luck to all of you. It really works!!
Best Wishes, S. Frisch
“WHY DOES IT WORK SO WELL?”
You receiving this letter is proof that it works. It works every time, but
how well depends on how many letters you send out. In the example below, you
mail out 200 letters. Imagine the money you’ll receive if you mail 500.
Here is how the system works. Assume, for example, you get a 7.5% rate of return,
which is very conservative. My first attempt was about 9.5% and my second was
14.0%.
1. When you send out 200 letters, 15 people will send you $2.00 $30.00
2. Those 15 mail out 200 letters and 225 people send you $2.00 $450.00
3. Those 225 mail out 200 letters and 3375 people send you $2.00 $6750.00
4. Those 3375 mail out 200 letters and 50,625 people send you $2.00 $101250.00
5. Those 50,625 mail out 200 letters and 759375 send you $2.00 $1518750.00
At this point your name leaves the list and you have received an approximate
total of $1627230.00
Cost Of Financial Freedom
Stamps (200) $74.00 Not bad for Financial freedom!!
Envelopes $3.00 If you don’t try it, you’ll never know
Names/list $35.00
Copies $20.00 REMEMBER FROM PAGE ONE,
Originators (6) $12.00 share your earnings in some good way.
Total $144.00 That is what makes the program work!!

Version 3
MAKE OVER $800,000.00 IN 90 DAYS
(BETTER THAN THE LOTTERY)
Dear Entrepreneur,
My name is Philip A. Brown. I am a retired attorney. About two years ago a
man came to me with this letter. Note: THIS IS NOT A CHAIN LETTER. This is a
service that is 100%. LEGAL.
(Please refer to title 18, Section 1302 and 1342 of the U.S. Postal and Lottery
Laws. The letter that he brought me is basically the same letter you have in
your hands right now. He asked me to verify that the letter was legal to use.
I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I first read the letter,
I thought it was another fruitless money-making scheme. A week later we met
in my office to discuss the issue. I told him to make a small change in the
letter and it would be completely legal.
I was still curious about the letter, so he told me how it worked. Before
my client left, I told him to keep me updated on his success. About three months
later, he called me to inform me that HE HAD RECEIVED OVER $800,000 IN CASH!
I didn’t believe him, so he asked me to try the idea and find out for
myself. I thought about it for several days and decided it was too incredible
to pass up, so I asked him for a copy of the letter. I followed the letter’s
instructions exactly. I mailed out 200 copies and sure enough, the money started
arriving. It came slowly at first, but after three weeks I started getting more
mail than I could open in one day! After three months the money stopped coming.
I had precise records of the earnings and at the end it totaled $968,494.00!!
I was earning a good living as a lawyer, but anyone in the legal profession
will tell you there is a lot of stress that comes with the job. I told myself
that if things work out, I would retire from the practice and play golf all
day. I decided to try the letter a second time, but this time I would send out
500 letters. Three and a half months later, the money stopped coming. Again
I kept precise records, and at the end it totaled $2,344,178.00!! I just couldn’t
believe it! I met my old client for lunch to find out how it worked for him.
He told me there were similar letters going around but they only had four or
five levels, not six like this one. This fact alone will result in your name
being on far more returns. The other factor was the help I gave him months ago
to make sure the whole thing was legal.
If you want to make thousands of dollars in a short time, I’ll bet you’re
curious what little change I told him to make to his original letter. HERE IT
IS: If you send a letter like this when you send a DOLLAR to each of the six
people on the list on the next page, you must include your mailing address with
a message saying, “Please put me on your mailing list.” You don’t
have to put your name if you don’t want to, but you can.
THIS IS THE KEY TO THE PROGRAM. THE DOLLAR YOU SEND TO THE SIX PEOPLE LISTED
ON THE NEXT PAGE IS FOR A COPY OF THE LETTER. WITH THE LETTER COMES THE RIGHT
TO EARN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
Follow the simple instructions on the next page exactly and in about three
months, YOU WILL RECEIVE OVER $800,000 GUARANTEED!!!
1) Immediately send $1.00 to the six people below. Wrap a dollar bill in a note
saying: “please put me on your mailing list” and include your name
and address.
1. Name and Address
2. Name and Address
3. Name and Address
4. Name and Address
5. Name and Address
6. Name and Address
2) Remove the name next to #1 on the list and move the rest of the names on
the list up one position. Add your name and address in the sixth slot. This
is best done by typing a new list and taping it over the old one.
3) When you have completed the instructions, take this letter to a copy shop
and make 200 or more copies. The more you send the better your results will
be.
4) Order 200 or more names from a mailing list. I recommend the following company,
as they do not reuse their lists. They promise that each name on the list has
requested money making information within the last 45 days.
Quality Services 200 names $42.00 1000 names $145.00
18402 N. 19th Ave PMB 122 300 names $64.00 2000 names $283.00
Phoenix, AZ 85023 400 names $82.00 3000 names $317.00
Order Desk: 1-800-659-6030 500 names $101.00 4000 names $417.00
5) While waiting for your address list, stuff, stamp, seal your envelopes.
Do not put your return address on the envelopes. This will peak the curiosity
of the receiver.
6) When your mailing list arrives, put a label on each of the envelopes and
drop them in the mail. Within 90 days you will receive $800,000.
7) Keep a copy of this letter, so you can use it again. Mail it in six months,
but mail it only with the addresses you received with each dollar. It will work
again, only much better. Assume for example you get a 7.55% rate of return,
which is very conservative. The second try would be 9% rate of return. My first
rate was 9.5% and my second was 11%. Here is how it works.
1. You send 200 letters 15 people send you $1.00
2. 15 people send 200 letters 225 people send you $1.00
3. 225 people send 200 letters 3,375 people send you $1.00
4. 3,375 people send 200 letters 50,625 people send you $1.00
5. 50,625 people send 200 letters 759,375 people send you $1.00
At this point you have been dropped off the list, but you have received $813,615.00.
It works every time, but how well it works depends on how many letters you send
out. Try it once and you will try it again. Now you can start that new business
your always talking about, go to those places you always see on T.V. or just
spend some fun time with your family. Everyone needs this chance. Believe me
I would not have spent the money on lists, stamps, paper, and envelopes if this
did not work. Just be sure you send a dollar to each of the names on the list,
with a note to be added to their mailing list and follow the instructions. This
is 100% legal service.
